He holds a PhD in Sociology from Universite Rene Descartes, Paris V, Sorbonne (1995), and is a writer and Full Professor at the School of Communication of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). He is a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Contemporary Communication and Culture (Facom-UFBA), a collaborating professor in the Graduate Program in Communication at UFRB, and in the Graduate Program in Intelligence Technologies and Digital Design (TIDD-PUC-SP). He is a full member of the Bahia Academy of Sciences, a member of the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE), and a CNPq 1A researcher. His most influential works include A Tecnologia e um Virus. Pandemia e Cultura Digital (Sulina, 2021); Isso (nao) e muito Black Mirror (Edufba, 2018); Teoria Ator-Rede e Estudos de Comunicacao (Edufba, 2016); and A Comunicacao das Coisas. Cibercultura e Teoria Ator-Rede (Jabuti Prize finalist 2014 - Annablume, 2013).
