He is a CNPq productivity fellow and professor at the Catholic University of Pernambuco (Unicap) and the University of Pernambuco (UPE). A permanent faculty member in Unicap’s Graduate Programs in Creative Industries and History, he researches the relationship between media systems and the quality of democracy. A journalist (Unicap) and social scientist (UFPE), he holds a master’s degree and PhD in Political Science from UFPE, with postdoctoral work in Communication at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). He was Fulbright Visiting Faculty at Tulane University and Visiting Scholar at the University of Akron (Ohio), with a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State. He has published articles in national and international journals such as International Journal of Cultural Policy (Taylor & Francis), Global Media and Communication (Sage Publications), Media, Culture & Society (Sage Publications), Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias de la Comunicacion (Alaic), and Revista Brasileira de Ciencias da Comunicacao (Intercom). He received the Professor Ennio Candotti Confap Science, Technology, and Innovation Award (2025) and is the author of O espectro autoritario: como a concentracao de midia fragiliza a democracia (Appris, 2021).
