INCT.DD presented funding proposals and research strategies.
Science in the fight against disinformation was the theme of a conference held in Brasília on 2 and 3 April, with participation from INCT.DD. Researchers from the network took part in the opening and closing panels to discuss challenges in disinformation research. The event was a joint initiative by Capes, CNPq, Finep, Ipea, the Presidency of the Republic, and the national institutes of science and technology. It was streamed live on YouTube.
The opening ceremony on 2 April included the lecture “Science in a democratic agenda for the digital age”, by INCT.DD researcher Nina Santos. “It was an important moment for building collaboration between public authorities, academia, and civil society to address key challenges of our time,” Nina Santos said. The opening panel also included representatives from Capes, Finep, Ibict, Ipea, and the Digital Policies Secretariat of Secom (Presidency of the Republic).
On 3 April, INCT.DD researcher Maria Paula Almada took part in the closing panel on challenges in the fight against disinformation. In her view, the conference was especially important because it brought together Brazilian funding agencies and research institutes that study disinformation, enabling debate on funding strategies and ways to counter false content. “Building a healthier, more diverse democratic digital environment and confronting disinformation can only be done together. Academia needs to work together, as do civil society, government, and public authorities in general,” she explained.
