The main aim of the Digital Democracy in Brazil project is to assess how the executive and legislative branches use digital tools to promote democratic values.
The project to map Brazilian digital democracy initiatives has been underway since 2011 at the Center for Advanced Studies in Digital Democracy (CEADD), at the Federal University of Bahia. It began before CEADD became the central laboratory of INCT.DD. Since then, the research has developed as the field has grown, new digital technologies have been adopted and used, methods have improved, and new researchers have joined, especially since INCT.DD was established in 2017. The project is therefore the result of joint work by Brazilian research groups and laboratories over these years. More than 30 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students have taken part, along with professors and researchers with doctorates. They formed a network whose main task was to identify, browse, catalog, and analyze government websites.
In 2017, the research became part of INCT.DD and a new team revised its approach. It adopted more objective parameters, which remained in use in the following years. The research is currently organized by Maria Paula Almada, Rodrigo Carreiro, Nina Santos, João Senna, and João Guilherme Santos.
