The Political Communication Research Section of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) is accepting papers for the IAMCR – Political Communication Research Section | Regional Conference Latin America 2026 until 3 April. The event will take place on 5–7 August 2026 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil, with support from INCT.DD.
With the theme “Democratic Challenges in Contexts of Disinformation and Radicalization”, the conference will bring together researchers from Latin America to discuss recent changes in political communication. It will focus on contexts marked by increasing disinformation, polarization, and communication dynamics mediated by algorithms.
The call invites original abstracts on political communication and related topics, with special attention to comparative projects, interdisciplinary approaches, methodological innovations, and contributions from underrepresented regions or communities. Abstracts may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, English, or French by 3 April 2026, using the form AVAILABLE HERE.
Suggested themes include disinformation and information disorders; digital media; polarization and hate speech; election campaigns; digital populism; social movements and activism; gender and political communication; technopolitics; artificial intelligence and democracy; political discourse and propaganda; and epistemological and methodological questions in the field.
The conference will take place in person, with two participation options: paper presentation and attendance without a presentation. Presentations and discussions will be in Portuguese and Spanish, with an emphasis on a collaborative academic environment and stronger regional and international research networks.
Results are scheduled for 4 May, registration opens on 1 June, and the deadline for discounted registration is 3 July.
