Scenarios and trends for the 2026 elections will be the focus of “Elections 2026: Bahia and Brazil in perspective,” a panel organized by the National Institute of Science and Technology in Digital Democracy (INCT.DD). The event will take place on August 26 at 4 p.m. in the INCT.DD auditorium, at the Faculty of Communication of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in Salvador. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event will bring together professor and researcher Wilson Gomes, INCT.DD coordinator, and political scientist Paulo Fábio Dantas, both from UFBA. Journalist Victor Pinto will moderate. The aim is to discuss the political landscape before the 2026 elections, connecting issues specific to Bahia with developments across Brazilian politics.
The discussion will address the main challenges and trends of the electoral process, considering changes in Brazil’s political landscape and their effects on the contest in Bahia. The panel also aims to support a broader understanding of the situation by examining the relationships between politics, institutions, communication, and democracy in an election year.
The panel aims to bring scientific research closer to public debate on democracy and politics. As preparations for the 2026 elections proceed, the meeting will offer informed analysis of possible political developments in Bahia and the country.
About the experts
Wilson Gomes is a full professor of Communication Theory at UFBA and a researcher in its Graduate Program in Contemporary Communication and Culture. A leading Brazilian scholar in communication, politics, and democracy, he has published eight books and many articles in Brazilian and international academic journals. He currently coordinates the National Institute of Science and Technology in Digital Democracy (INCT.DD) and is a full member of the Bahia Academy of Sciences and the Folha de S. Paulo Editorial Board.
Paulo Fábio Dantas is a full professor in UFBA’s Department of Political Science, teaches in its Graduate Program in Political Science, and is a researcher at the Center for Studies and Research in the Humanities (CRH). His work focuses on Brazilian politics, political thought, political theory, elites, and political parties. He also provides political analysis for media outlets and forums on politics in Bahia and Brazil.
The moderator, journalist Victor Pinto, graduated from UFBA’s Faculty of Communication and is also a lawyer. With experience in radio, television, print and digital journalism, communications consulting, and campaigns, Pinto works mainly in coverage of politics in Bahia and Brazil.
