Registration is open for the 36th International Society for Humor Studies (ISHS) conference. It will take place at the Institute of Art and Social Communication of Fluminense Federal University (UFF) from 6 to 10 July. Proposals for panels and roundtables, and short abstracts, can be submitted until 27 March. The National Institute of Science and Technology in Digital Democracy (INCT.DD) supports the initiative.
Interested researchers can submit proposals in three categories: papers, thematic panels, and roundtables. Paper proposals may be submitted individually or with coauthors. Panels must be organized by coordinators and bring together three to five papers in a self-managed format. Roundtables have a more open format and can also be proposed by coordinators, who are responsible for naming the participants.
Deadlines
Proposals for panels and roundtables, and short abstracts, can be submitted until 27 March. The results of the short abstract review will be announced on 6 May.
The conference will also give awards for the best full paper, best presentation, and best graduate student papers. In addition, it will introduce an award for the best doctoral thesis in Portuguese. Applications for the best thesis award can be submitted until 30 March. Full papers entered for awards must be submitted by 30 May.
This will be the first time that the longest-established international event devoted to humor studies takes place in Brazil.
Held regularly since 1988, with origins in 1976, the conference will bring together researchers from fields including Communication, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Psychology, Linguistics, History, Law, Health Sciences, and Computer Science. It will promote academic exchange and the development of research on humor.
The event is organized within UFF’s Graduate Program in Communication. Researchers Viktor Chagas and João Paulo Capelotti lead the organization, with support from the organizing committee and scientific committee.
