The book “Poder local e transparência: os municípios brasileiros e a Lei de Acesso à Informação” (Local Government and Transparency: Brazilian Municipalities and the Access to Information Law) is now on sale. Its main aim is to examine transparency in the information Brazilian municipalities publish about their management through official websites. Published by Edufba, the book is the result of extensive research by a team led by Professor Othon Jambeiro, deputy coordinator of INCT.DD. The team also includes Maristela Dias, Vanice da Mata, and Rodrigo Ramos.
The book analyzes how local governments comply with specific articles of the Access to Information Law (LAI). It also seeks to identify a possible relationship between compliance with these articles and municipalities’ population sizes and socioeconomic indicators. The authors show that, although these channels are widely available, the rate of responses to information requests submitted through them is very low.
