The research report “Scientific [Self] Isolation” was published today. It analyzes disinformation trends in different countries to understand their positions in relation to disinformation about the novel coronavirus pandemic. The study is part of the Democracia Infectada (Infected Democracy) research initiative, which brings together the Center for the Analysis of Liberty and Authoritarianism (LAUT), INCT.DD, the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab), and the Vero Project.
The report, the second publication in the series, highlights that false information about COVID-19 treatments follows regional patterns, but similar themes recur in different countries. It also found that news about drugs such as chloroquine and ivermectin is often presented as speculation. In Brazil, however, the topic remains active in public debate as a solution.
