With film director Cristiane Bernardes attending, the event discussed the parliamentary work of Brazilian female deputies.
“A Câmara”, a film by Cristiane Bernardes and Tiago de Aragão, had a single screening in Salvador on 6 May 2024, in the auditorium of UFBA’s School of Communication. Organized by the film’s production team, INCT.DD, and UFBA, the event also featured Professor Roberta Carnelos from Political Science (UFBA) as discussant. PósCom/UFBA doctoral student Letícia Alcântara moderated the discussion.
The film follows Brazilian female federal deputies in their parliamentary work between May and July 2022. It records controversies and debates involving the women’s caucus, showing how deputies from different parts of the political spectrum deal with lobbying and issues such as abortion, education, and public health. “A Câmara” also shows how the deputies work to secure approval for bills.
